Dear friends When 2005 is fading down to our memory, when all of us, with greatest anticipations…await the rise of 2006…. when the golden rays of good hope are yet to touch this beautiful garden of daffodils…I thought of going back to the past.
Daffodils in desert, it has a story of struggle…a struggle to build trust between friends…it has a story of tears…. story of separation……story of discrimination…
Few friends from a reputed yahoo group, fought for their right to identify their co-members…who could not have afford to be cheated and mislead by others. Realising that their cry for identity is going to some deaf ear and for the same reason they had been discriminated within the group….they have decided to build a new world…a different world. Their dream for a world of familiar faces….their ambition to build a group of friends who can trust on each other…relay on each other….who are known to one another…a place where people can share their emotions….has lead to the formation of Daffodils on desert.
On July 19th Tuesday, evening at 11 pm….A call from Doha to Bahrain ….." edaaa….its ready…I am sending invitation to you and Susha"..…yess……we had made it. Three four days of discussions and hard work to finalise the homepage and group policies…hats off to our Kanamarayeth, who put all his efforts to make this group a reality.
The first mail to the group... on 20th Jul

Yess…a dream was becoming true…an ambition was getting accomplished…yess…that was the beginning of our journey…a never ending journey.
Its you friends support and encouragement which has always been strengthening our will. We had Shanthettan's ideas and guidelines to move ahead and on 27 th July the moderators have positioned him as the Middle East Regional coordinator of the group which he has accepted with great pleasure. Presence of friends like Antochayan, Abhilash, Jayan, riju, pappettan, jimmy, Arun Raj, Pachu, ramesh pai etc. were making this group more active on those days. Because of busy work schedule many of them are not seen now a days. As the group is going to celebrate its first new year after its formation we expect all of your attention and involvement in group activities.
The first contest conducted in connection with "Friendship day" was a big success by the number of contestants participated in it. Out of the entries send by Riju, Prashanth, Nadeer, Suhas and Vinesh, the moderators has selected Suhas' s creation as the winning entry. The sweet narration of his college days, his special feelings to that " pavadakkari" has touched everybody's heart. The price to the winner was awarded in a get together of Doha friends. I thank each and every participant once again at this time.
The time kept running, as it never stays for any one, the group also kept growing. In between we have celebrated several birthdays and anniversaries. Doha and UAE friends get together and ifthar parties has helped in bringing us more together. More friends joined with us, as the time went each one of us came more closer to each other. Friends like Arif, Shajahan, Shaheer, Aneesh, Sree, etc. became a part of this stream within a matter of days. Shajahan's Ghazals has made each days of daffodils more melodious. Later on December 14 th when the group effort of Arif, Aneesh and Shajahan lead by Nadeer have launched the web site for his transelated ghazals, daffodils group was crossing one more landmark in its history. Let us wish a happy married life to our dear Suhas, the first member to get married after our group formation. We are glad to have the presence of new members like anees, Shiras, peringodan, shameem, nidhu and sumesh ( who joined today), also along with us to welcome 2006.
At this moment I can realize…daffodils in desert is no more a group of friends….it has grown more than that. The miles in between each of us has never bothered us…it has never been a barrier to share our sorrows and happiness. An invisible strength…it is binding all of us together….a bond of love…a bond of trust. If each one of us can feel its power….I am glad…
I am glad to see that we are on the right track….
This December…when the whole world is celebrating the birth of "Daiva Puthran" who has lived to spread the light of love and brotherly hood through out the world, we at Daffodils are proud of our family. We are proud of our unity, our brotherly feelings, our love and trust on each other.
When we stand at the edge of 2005 to step into a new year I personally and on behalf of moderators team I like to thank each one of you for the support and encouragement extended to us in the past and expect to continue the same in the future. As a group we have a long way to go in front of us. As all of you are aware, we have a lot of things to achieve and I wish the year 2006 would witness the accomplishment of some of our aims.
The main intention of this group is to have a link between expatriates and our homeland. At this time we have a number of expatriate friends from the Middle East region but we hardly have any members from Kerala. Am not forgetting friends like Pachu and Anees. We anticipate the beginning of 2006 to bring in more members to the group for which each one of us has to contribute. As a group we do not have any arrangement for publicity and I strongly believe, if all of us put our efforts in promoting this group among our own friends circle might bring a drastic increase in the number of members.
Secondly year 2006 should see that the group extends its helping hands to those downtrodden in our community. Doing some sort of charity work is one of our primary aim. The past six months has been helped us to understand each other and I trust each one of us will have same opinion to this matter.
It has been discussed several times in our group to have a collection of creations by our members and to publish them. A first step has taken by the moderators through our new year day contest, where the entries will be sent to a magazine for publishing the selected one. Further efforts will be put forward in this area to fulfill our dream of publishing all creations of our members.
We have discussed a lots of important and not that important subjects in the past. I personally have noticed the less participation of members in serious discussions. Though our busy work schedules and other commitments allows only very minimum attention to the group at some times, I request all of you friends to initiate and participate in debates.
As we expand the group, we need to have certain tasks and responsibilities assigned to some group members with a selected leader. We look forward to have an organizational setup to our group without loosing the very basic nature of friendliness.
So we have to work hard in the year of 2006, in developing our family and adding value to its activities. At this time I am very sure of having all of your support to the moderators in our future journey also.
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous 2006.
